RÍO ÑIREGUAO

 

The Rio Nireguao is located 70 kilometers northeast of Coyhaique and rolls through the flat steppe with moderate currents and large pools. Nestled in the pristine wilderness of Patagonia, the captivating river winds its way through some of the most breathtaking landscapes in South America. Originating in the Andes Mountains, this river meanders through lush forests, rolling hills, and expansive valleys, offering a remarkable journey for fly fishers and nature enthusiasts.

The banks, lined with some trees and tall grass, provide an ideal view of unique rock formations and are home to many grasshoppers. The wind of the pampa ensures that the trouts find a well-laid table, creating a real dry fly paradise. The average fish run about 1-4 pounds.

Enjoy an early morning cruise down to the river, searching for Patagonian browns trouts up to seven pounds. Keep an eye out to the spectacular surroundings, the wild pampa geese, flamingos, black necked swans and Patagonian foxes. The river’s banks are adorned with vibrant wildflowers and dense foliage, adding to the area’s natural allure.

 

The riverbed makes its way through the flat landscape where the pampas grass is continuously blown by the wind and flows through a canyon into the Río Mañihuales. Majestic mature chinook salmon journey through this river, serving as a vivid reminder that the untamed Patagonian pampa is always in close proximity to the mighty Pacific Ocean.
